Official Transcripts

  • Mail BHSU an official/original stamped transcript from your institution to the address below.
    • Grade Point Average (GPA) Requirements:
      • First time freshman: 2.6 GPA on a 4.0 scale
      • Transfer Student: 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • If you are transferring from a post-secondary institution, BHSU must receive a high school transcript and a post-secondary transcript. If you would like the possibility of your college credit from an institution outside of the US to transfer to BHSU, you must obtain a course-by-course evaluation from WES or ECE

Financial Responsibility

  • Provide a Bank Statement or Bank Letter signed and stamped by a Bank Official AND the Official Statement of Finances demonstrating the minimum amount for one academic year found in Costs for both documents.

English Proficiency

  • Must be sent from the testing agency to BHSU.
    • TOEFL: (Code 6042)
      • PBT: Minimum score of 500
      • IBT: Minimum score of 61
    • SAT: (Code 6042)
      • Critical Reading and Writing: Minimum score of 480
    • Online E3PT Exam: Minimum score of 62
    • Online iTEP Exam: Minimum score of 3.6
    • Duolingo: Minimum score of 90
  • Exceptions:

IF the student first enrolls in BHSU's Academic English Program AEP
IF the student has attended secondary school or post-secondary school in the U.S. for one academic year.
IF the student is from a native English speaking country
       For some West African countries, WAEC score > C4 in English language

Are you a Transfer Student on a current F1 visa?

  • If you are transferring your visa from an institution within the US, complete the transfer form and have your current academic/international student adviser (DSO) send it to BHSU:

Ship I-20 and Admission Letter

  • After you receive confirmation of admission to BHSU, submit payment to ship your I-20 and Welcome Packet using E-Ship Global. Once you complete the request and payment through E-Ship Global, we will ship your paperwork to you. Depending on your location, it may take up to two weeks to receive your package.

*Costs will vary depending on number of credits that students enroll in. 120 credit hours are required to graduate from BHSU. On average, students enroll in 12-18 credits per semester. To graduate in four years, students should register in 30 credits per year.

*Personal spending money will vary, please consider $500 to $1,000 per semester.

Global Ambassador Scholarship
Live in a Residence Hall on Campus for FREE! (Up to 8 academic semesters). Housing costs vary year to year; however, the current estimated value is $14,000 distributed over four years! This competitive scholarship is awarded only to International Students, and recipients are selected based on a personal essay, GPA, test scores, and extracurricular involvement. Students must be admitted to BHSU to be awarded scholarships.

Buzz Bonus Scholarship
This award is available to a high school graduate who has not previously attended a post-secondary institution. The application must be made during the senior year of high school. To be eligible, a student must attain a minimum SAT composite score of 1060, be in the upper 33% of their class rank, and must have been admitted to Black Hills State University. This scholarship will be awarded for four (4) years if the student maintains a 3.0 cumulative GPA and takes 30 credit hours per academic year.
The amount of the award is determined by the student's SAT score according to the chart below:

  • SAT Score Scholarship Amount
    • 1260 or higher --- $1,000.00
    • 1200 - 1250 --- $750.00
    • 1060 - 1190 --- $500.00
