Black Hills State University accepts up to 30 credit hours of non-traditional coursework and training from sources such as DANTES and ACE Credits. Our team will work with you to evaluate your transcript and apply eligible credits toward your chosen program.

Black Hills State University’s Unearned Tuition Assistance (TA) Policy

The following are % of funds we have to return to the government if you withdraw from a
class or classes where you have received Federal Tuition Assistance Funds, depending on
the length of the term, and what week in the term they were withdrawn.

NOTE 1: After 60% of the term has been completed no funds have to be returned.
NOTE 2: The calculation will occur as soon as possible but no later than 45 days after the
date the University determined the student withdrew.
NOTE 3: TA is earned by the calendar day, not class day. This includes weekends, holidays,
and breaks of less than five consecutive days

16-week Course Withdraw submitted

Before or during weeks 1-2 100% return
During weeks 3-4 75% return
During weeks 5-8 50% return
During weeks 9 40% return (60% of course is completed)
During weeks 10-16 0% return

8-week Course Withdraw submitted

Before or during week 1 100% return
During week 2 75% return
During weeks 3-4 50% return
During week 5 40% return (60% of course is completed)
During weeks 6-8 0% return
12-week Course Withdraw submitted, the 60% of course completed at 7.2 weeks
5-week Course Withdraw submitted, the 60% of course completed at 3 weeks
4-week Course Withdraw submitted, the 60% of course completed at 2.4 weeks

 

DANTES/DSST Credit by Examination

The Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) program allows students to receive college credit for learning acquired outside the traditional classroom. BHSU administers DSST exams year-round in the Office for Academic Success.
