Black Hills State University earned third place in the Mascot Challenge sponsored by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
BHSU was recently designated as an Exercise is Medicine On Campus (EIM-OC) school. EIM-OC, an ACSM initiative, encourages faculty, staff, and students to work together to better the health and well-being of their campus community.
"Receiving the Exercise is Medicine designation highlights the leadership shown by our Exercise Science Department in integrating physical activity into the fabric of campus life and supporting the entire campus in achieving healthier futures," said Dr. Cheryl Anagnopoulos, Chair of the School of Behavioral Sciences and professor of psychology at BHSU.
After receiving this designation, the Exercise Science Department at BHSU partnered with the Marketing Department to create a mascot video that promotes the Exercise is Medicine message. As part of the Mascot Challenge, the BHSU campus was challenged to view and like the video, which received enough views and likes to place third in the competition.
“The third place win in the Mascot Challenge is an exciting beginning, as BHSU joined the effort for the first time with the American College of Sports Medicine,” added Anagnopoulos. “It reflects the enthusiasm of our campus.”
The Exercise Science Department and Exercise Science Club will create new events and active challenges on campus to continue bringing awareness to the importance of exercise.
