Sumin Seo, a student at KonKuk University in South Korea, spent the Fall 2024 semester
studying abroad at Black Hills State University (BHSU). Following her experience abroad,
Seo secured an internship opportunity at Samsung C&T Corporation in South Korea.
At Konkuk University, Seo is pursuing a double major in Social Science and International Trade. During her semester at BHSU, she took courses in a wide range of subjects, including legal environment of business, marketing, canoeing, rock climbing, and archery. “Through this experience, I was able to broaden both my academic and personal perspectives,” said Seo.
In addition to her coursework, Seo was an active member of the International Club and Buzz Marketing. As a member of the International Club, she engaged with students from different backgrounds and learned about various cultures. She also prepared and served nearly 100 portions of Korean food for the International Food Festival at BHSU, introducing Korean cuisine and culture to students.
In Buzz Marketing Seo participated in several team projects, including an analysis and strategy proposal to provide recommendations to increase enrollment numbers at the BHSU Rapid City Campus and gathering the thoughts of current, potential, and non-potential students on the Master of Business Administration program at BHSU.
“The research and analytical skills I developed through Buzz Marketing were valuable when I returned to Korea and took part in trade-related hackathons and current affairs projects in my university’s international trade club,” said Seo.
Buzz Marketing was congratulated on their work, receiving letters of recognition from Dr. Allred, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Life and the Chair of Rapid City Campus Committee, and from Dr. Adam Bailey, the Chair of the College of Business.
“I was honored to receive a Recognition Letter for my outstanding participation and performance. During the project, I also received insightful feedback from Professor Sangbong Lee and Professor Wei Song, who advised me on marketing perspectives, research scope, and interview questions fairness,” added Seo. “Their guidance greatly enhanced the quality of my analysis, allowing me to strengthen my confidence and abilities.”
“Through these academic and extracurricular experiences, I have developed a deeper understanding of the global business environment, improved my communication and teamwork skills, and significantly enhanced my English proficiency,” said Seo. “These experiences have helped me secure an internship opportunity at Samsung C&T Corporation, where I could apply my international perspective in a professional business setting.”
