BHSU Grooves into Swarm Days 2025: A Disco Themed Celebration

September 17, 2025

Black Hills State University will host their annual Swarm Days September 22-27. The theme of this year’s celebration is “Disco: Stayin’ Alive in the Hive.”

As a cherished tradition at BHSU, Swarm Days unites students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the Spearfish community in a week-long celebration of school spirit, featuring several events such as the parade and the homecoming football game.

All are invited to Swarm Days events throughout the week. Homecoming Coronation will take place Thursday, September 25 at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Burning of the BH at 7:45 p.m. On Friday, the Alumni Awards Luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. in the Joy Center and the Hall of Fame Banquet will be held at 6 p.m. in the Jacket Legacy Room.

New this year, the BHSU Theater Society is partnering with the Matthews Opera House to host a “Boogie Shoes Disco Party” Wednesday, September 24 from 5-9 p.m. The Matthews theatre will be transformed into a retro dance floor, and guests are encouraged to dress in their best 70s attire. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at matthewsopera.com. Proceeds go to The Matthews and the BHSU Theater Society.

The parade is Saturday, September 27 at 10 a.m. followed by a tailgate social at 11:15 a.m. before the football game against Colorado School of Mines at 1 p.m. The parade route will start at Hillsview Road, then turn onto North Ave., and continue towards Main Street. At 5:30 p.m., volleyball will take on CSU-Pueblo inside the Donald E. Young Center.
