24th Annual Mark Larscheid Tournament raises $9,000 for BHSU Track & Field Scholarship

July 24, 2025

The 24th Annual Mark Larscheid Memorial Golf Tournament was held July 5 at the Spearfish Canyon Golf Club, bringing together 144 golfers in memory of Mark Larscheid—a cherished Black Hills State University alumnus, athlete, and student. Mark competed as a hurdler from 1969–1973 and played football at BHSU. He tragically lost his life in an automobile accident in 2000, but his legacy continues to inspire.

Thanks to generous hole sponsors, donations, and a silent auction, this year’s tournament raised $9,000 for the Mark Larscheid Memorial Scholarship, supporting student-athletes in BHSU’s Track and Field program. Since its inception in 2002, the scholarship has benefited 23 students. The 2024–2025 recipient is Gretchen Adamski, a standout pole vaulter from Spearfish, who received a $4,500 scholarship. With this year’s donation, the fund now exceeds $130,000, ensuring continued support for future athletes.

This tournament wouldn’t be possible without the tireless efforts of Mary Larscheid-Christensen. Her commitment ensures that each year's gathering is more than just golf—it’s a meaningful day of remembrance and community. BHSU deeply appreciates the time, energy, and love that Mary dedicates to the tournament, as well as the unwavering support of the entire Larscheid family.

Mary extends her heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated, donated, and attended—making it “the best ever day” to remember Mark.

The 25th tournament will be held Friday, July 3, 2026 at Spearfish Canyon Country Club. Those interested are encouraged to register early as spots typically fill by April with a waiting list of players.
