We strive to serve as the community center for Black Hills State University. To assist in students' transformation by providing innovative and high-quality programs, which collaboratively engage students in volunteer service, involvement opportunities, leadership development, student employment, and self-directed activities. To serve as a high-quality meeting, banquet, and conference center for the campus and community. To provide a valued and dynamic learning community through services, conveniences, programs, and activities that support the BHSU mission. To serve as a unifying and engaging force in the life of the University.
The Student Union is home to many different services available to students. You will find them listed below along with links to their various web pages.
Located in the lower level of the Student Union, Club Buzz and the Game Room is a convenient place for students to take a break and enjoy a game of pool or ping-pong, lounge with friends, or take a lunch break and catch up on the latest news or sports. Comfortable couches and seating areas allow for a place to study, watch television, eat a snack, play a board game, or just take a few minutes after your busy day to unwind.
The student union building was originally built in 1963. It was expanded in 1968, 1997, and most recently in 2009. In 1998, the building was dedicated and renamed the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union. Dr. David B. Miller, a history professor from 1968-1997, received the 1997 Distinguished Faculty Award and was a four-time recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Award from the Student Senate.
