The FAFSA is the initial application for all federal aid programs. It can be completed at studentaid.gov. BHSU's school code is 003459. FAFSA's submitted by will receive priority consideration for all types of aid. Applications submitted later than may not be considered for some programs because of limited funding. Further steps will be required of some students after the FAFSA is submitted. Responding promptly to any requests for additional information is necessary to prevent delays in the application process. Students should check email regularly for communication regarding their aid application.
Students who meet the priority deadline and have submitted all requested documentation should receive an award notice via email by late spring. Those students who apply later in the process should expect to receive an award notice approximately six to eight weeks after submitting the FAFSA.
No. Acceptance to BHSU is based on academic standards, not financial need. Application for financial aid in no way impacts the admission decision.
Yes, go to studentaid.gov. Students and parents should obtain an FSA ID prior to completing the FAFSA so it can be signed electronically, or you must print out the signature page and send it to the Federal processor at the address listed on the signature page. Filing the FAFSA online will reduce your processing time.
Scholarships may reduce your eligibility for student loans, work-study, and grants other than Pell. Students should not turn down scholarships.

BHSU students may qualify for TEACH, Dakota Corp, Jump Start, South Dakota Opportunity and Freedom Scholarships. Eligibility information for these awards are available on the SD Board of Regents website. Also, refer to ed.gov and key in "state higher education agencies" for state grants.
