Black Hills State University and Spearfish Economic Development Corporation are partnering on a new Workforce Development Internship Program and are currently seeking Spearfish businesses interested in participating.
The program will provide part-time, paid work experience to BHSU students in positions related to their course or study as well as provide local businesses with affordable help and a potential funnel of future employees. The goals of the partnership are to better prepare students for the workforce, to assist local businesses with their workforce needs, to retain graduates in the Spearfish area, and to improve the collaboration amongst the Spearfish business community and the university.
Businesses located in Spearfish who are able to regularly provide internship opportunities for students and have the ability to potentially move them into full-time, sustainable careers after graduation are encouraged to apply for this program. All interested businesses must fill out a BHSU-SEDC Workforce Internship Program Employer Application, which will be reviewed by BHSU and SEDC to determine which category of funding the applicant will be awarded. SEDC member businesses are eligible for additional funding options.
Once a Spearfish business is approved to participate, Black Hills State University will work with the employer to identify the key majors, skills and competencies needed by the employer from potential interns and then will match them with students who are interested, qualified and could benefit from an internship with the employer.
