Financial aid and scholarships are a crucial part of making your educational dreams a reality. BHSU offers a variety of scholarships to help you reach your educational goals.
BUZZ BONUS Scholarship
Apply for admission today! Awarded based on your application for admission - no separate application required. The BUZZ Bonus is guaranteed to eligible students while funds are still available.
This award is available to a high school graduate who has not previously attended a post-secondary institution. Application is made during the senior year of high school. To be eligible, a student must attain a minimum ACT composite score of 21, be in the upper 33% of his/her class rank, and must have been admitted to Black Hills State University. Home-schooled students, in lieu of class rank, must attain a 3.0 GPA along with the minimum ACT composite score of 21, as well as be admitted to Black Hills State University to be awarded the Buzz Bonus. The amount of the award is determined by the students ACT score according to the chart below.
- ACT Score Scholarship Amount
- 27 or higher -- $1,000.00
- 25-26 -- $750.00
- 21-24 -- $500.00
This scholarship will be renewed for three years if the student maintains a 3.0 cumulative GPA and takes 30 credit hours per academic year.*
These scholarships are awarded upon admission to BHSU. If your ACT score or class rank improves please contact the Admissions Office to request a reevaluation.
BHSU Foundation scholarships are for BHSU classes only. Recipients of BHSU scholarships are advised to contact the Scholarship Coordinator if they are anticipating taking classes at one of the other South Dakota public universities.
