This graduate-level teacher preparation program is designed to equip individuals with the essential knowledge, skills, and teaching credentials needed to become effective educators. The program includes coursework focused on pedagogy, subject-specific content, classroom management, and educational theory. The Project SECOND program often incorporates practical teaching experiences, such as student teaching or internships, providing hands-on training in real classroom settings. The program aims to produce highly qualified and licensed teachers who are prepared to positively impact the lives of their students and contribute to the field of education.

Master of Science in Curriculum & Instruction (MSCI)

The Master of Science in Curriculum & Instruction (MSCI) program facilitates your professional growth while preparing you for leadership in roles beyond the classroom. MSCI graduate degree programs of study include K-12 Science Specialist, K-12 Technology Integrationist, K-12 Math Specialist, Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, K-12 Library Media, and K-12 Special Education.

Master of Arts in Teaching in Special Education

The Master of Art in Teaching (MAT) in Special Education is designed for students who want to work with students who receive special education services and who have an undergraduate degree in a non-teachable subject. The MAT in Special Education will lead to initial certification in K-12 special education with a graduate degree in teaching. Students will take classes for initial teacher certification, and classes specific to special education licensure.

Master of Science in Secondary Education

This degree is designed to provide you for post baccalaureate secondary teacher certification in South Dakota. It is designed for individuals with bachelor’s degrees from accredited colleges or universities that can lead to secondary content teaching areas. This 35-credit degree program allows them to become fully certified and complete a master’s degree within one year. The master’s degree can be pursued through the online Project SECOND.

Master of Education (M.E.D.) in Reading

Master of Education in Reading is a 35-credit program that emphasizes professional practice in the field of reading and addresses all International Reading Association standards for reading specialists and literacy coaches. This completely online master’s program in reading meets South Dakota's standards to prepare reading specialists. As part of this program, you will be prepared to address the literacy needs of elementary, middle, and high school populations, as well as for leadership roles.
