Summer Academic Camps

Black Hills State University is excited to offer Camp Invention Elevate At Home Activity Kits for summer learning! Developed by the National Inventors Hall of Fame, Camp Invention is a STEM enrichment program that provides children with hands-on/minds-on opportunities to explore, create, and invent in relevant ways that will help prepare them to one day change the world! In partnership with more than 2,800 schools nationwide, the Camp Invention program will:

Encourage children’s creative problem-solving skills through STEM-focused activities.

Inspire girls and minority children to imagine themselves as engineers and innovators.

Develop children’s critical thinking and communication skills.

Blend entrepreneurship with collaboration skills that are necessary for success in the global workforce.

Integrate the expertise of the National Inventors Hall of Fame Inductees into various challenges throughout the week.

Instill the value of Intellectual Property and the roles that patents, trademarks and copyrights play in the landscape of invention and innovation today.

Are backed by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Each kit includes all of the materials needed for the 4 Units outlined below and 1 t-shirt.

Format

Kits will be sent directly to your home after successful registration and payment. Kits will ship June 1st.

Everything a family needs to complete the activities are included in the kits that are shipped. In addition, support and opportunities to connect with other inventors will be provided. Camp Invention At Home will have four teachers, each specializing in one of the four units: Flight Lab™, Champions™, Design Thinking Project™, and Rescue Squad™.

Your student will have the option to join in a ‘virtual camp’ experience throughout the program. Students will be in four groups; each week will focus on one of the four Camp Invention Kit Units. Small group Zoom sessions with teachers will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 6:00-6:30 pm MT. The Zoom schedule is as follows: Mondays, the teacher specializing in that Unit will provide instruction; Wednesdays, the teachers will be available for ‘office hours;’ Fridays, teachers will lead a show-and-tell for students to share their completed work! This is meant to be an engaging way for students to get support from a teacher and to share their learning with other students. Student participation in the ‘virtual camp’ is optional but encouraged.

The National Inventors Hall of Fame is ready to deliver hands-on learning experiences for children to engage their curiosity, provide excitement, and have fun experimenting with Invention Education at home. These hands-on/minds-on learning programs cannot replicate the full Camp Invention experience, however, considering our current challenges, they do present a way to meet children’s innate needs to explore with their hands and mind within the safety of their home environment.

AT HOME EXPERIENCE

Elevate at Home Activity Kit can be sent directly to student homes and contain 4 Elevate Units: Flight Lab™, Camp Invention Champions™, Design Thinking Project™, and Rescue Squad™. Each unit will contain a printed guidebook, with easy to follow instructions in English and Spanish. All hands-on materials needed to complete the activities will also be included. Pricing includes the cost of shipping and delivery to student homes.

ON-DEMAND CONTENT

Web-based video content and resources are included and can be accessed on-demand using web links found in the student guidebook. Online content is only an extension of the theme and is not required to complete the projects included in the kit.

Scholarships are available and are provided by grants from our generous community partners.
The John T. Vucurevich Foundation is sponsoring 30 students to participate this summer.

During the registration process, you will have the opportunity to indicate scholarship needs.
Scholarships will be awarded via email AFTER you complete the registration process.
The payment link will be sent to the email address you register with, payment must be received by May 20th to process your order.
