Steve Elliott became the 12th President of Black Hills State University in December of 2023. Prior to BHSU, he held the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs at Wayne State College in northeast Nebraska. During his time at Wayne State College, Elliott was responsible for overseeing a large faculty and staff, managing a substantial annual budget, and leading a growing student enrollment.
Elliott had a diverse career at Wayne State, serving in various key positions, including faculty member, department chair, and dean. In 2016, he assumed the role of Vice President of Academic Affairs, highlighting his commitment to fostering educational growth and innovation.
Elliott holds a Master of Fine Arts degree, the highest accolade in his field, earned from the University of Maryland. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Kansas. Before entering academia, Elliott served in the United States Marine Corps.
Elliott and his wife, Molly, have three children. Beyond his academic and military background, Elliott is recognized for his creative talents in fine arts. His large-scale sculptures and mixed-media works have been featured in 26 states nationwide, showcasing his artistic skills.
