Any language, under appropriate circumstances, borrows lexical material from other languages. Some languages borrow more than others and borrow more from some sources than others. English has borrowed massively from French, Latin, and Greek; significantly from Italian, Spanish, German, Danish, and Dutch, and to varying degrees from every other language with which it has come to contact.
