Dr. Wendy Stewman grew up as a military dependent and lived in several states as a child. Her post-secondary education began at Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia where she earned her B.A. degree in theatre. Dr. Stewman started her educational career in 2005 as a special education teacher in Florida. During her time as a special education teacher, she earned her M.S.ED. in Behavioral and Developmental Disabilities from Nova Southeastern University and her Ed.D. in Special Education from Slippery Rock University.
Dr. Stewman moved to South Dakota in 2022 where she began working at BHSU as an assistant professor of Special Education. Currently, she teaches undergraduate and graduate-level courses for the School of Education specializing in teacher certification in the special education field. Her research interests focus on developing effective inclusionary practices in the educational setting and the development of executive functioning skills.
Dr. Stewman uses her practical experience in education to promote open, inclusive environments based on acceptance and respect. She has been actively involved at local and state levels in creating and promoting inclusionary programs for all students in the school setting.
