Jami Kesling grew up on a farm and ranch near Morristown, South Dakota, and spent most of her life on the Cheyenne River Reservation in Timber Lake, South Dakota. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Dickinson State University. Mrs. Kesling later earned her Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from Black Hills State University.
With over 26 years of teaching in the classroom, Jami brings numerous educational experiences with her, such as National Indian School Board Association (NISBA) Teacher of the Year, Mentor Teacher in the SD DOE Teacher Mentor Program, coordinator for after-school and summer school programs, and successful federal grant writing experience.
In 2022, Jami Kesling began her career as Director of Field Experiences and University Certification Officer at Black Hills State University. She serves on the Education Advisory Board and as chair of the Professional Progress Committee and Field Experience Governing Committee. Jami enjoys working with pre-service teachers and helping them reach their goals throughout each stage of their educational journey to graduation and beyond.
