Dr. Emilia Flint has been a Professor of Psychology at Black Hills State University since 2010. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Master’s Degree in Counseling from the University of North Dakota, and Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Dakota. Ever since her graduate school days, she has been passionate about student involvement in local, regional, national, and international conferences. She completed her internship experience at Bowling Green State University where she worked full-time in the university counseling center and guest lectured to both undergraduate and graduate students in psychology.
Prior to that experience, Dr. Flint worked part-time in a rural hospital where she would see 15-20 clients per week on an outpatient basis. She also has experience working with individuals with newly acquired disabilities as she worked in a hospital and outpatient rehabilitation setting. Currently, she works part time in a private practice in the Spearfish community. She is known at that practice as the chronic pain management specialist with additional training in biofeedback techniques. Dr. Flint is enthusiastic about supporting student-led research projects in clinical or counseling psychology and has personal research interests in the field of sport, exercise, and performance psychology. To cultivate this interest, Dr. Flint has partnered with the Special Olympics organization to examine competitive anxiety states in athletes with intellectual disabilities. Dr. Flint teaches Introduction to psychology, psychology of abnormal behavior, introduction to clinical psychology, and human potential and performance.
