BHSU THEATRE TO PERFORM “FUNNY LITTLE THING CALLED LOVE”

The Black Hills State University Theatre Department will take the stage for their production of “Funny Little Thing Called Love,” directed by Max Merchen. Performances will be held in the Black Box Theatre on the third floor of Woodburn Hall April 4 and 5 at 7 p.m., April 6 at 2 p.m., April 11 and 12 at 7 p.m., and April 13 at 2 p.m.

Written by Jones Hope Wooten, “Funny Little Thing Called Love,” features four lively tales with unpredictable and amusing twists that center around the theme of love. The comedy includes stories of a successful used-car salesman in Dallas that believes he’s answering Cupid’s call, a group of girls from Georgia accidentally crashing a Hawaiin honeymoon, the connection between two strangers at a rooftop London bistro, and an ill-advised and elaborate marriage proposal in Manhattan.

The show is directed by Merchen, a guest director at BHSU. He has directed and contributed to several community theatre shows in the Black Hills. “I chose this show because, not only are Jones Hope Wooten hilarious playwrights, but it deals with the themes of our season this year and that is love. These four rollicking tales take you on an around-the-globe journey of unexpected and hilarious twists and turns,” said Merchen.

The performance will feature BHSU students Mia Fernandez, Dylan Greywater, Elyssa Hauser, Justin Hausmann, Alyx Kohut, Quill Lent, DJ Little Bull, Cyrus Lyons, Liz Parsons, Abigail Reich, Josiah Sabrowski-Johnson, Gianna Swan, Halle Uphoff, Owen Vaughn, and Julia Wilson.

“Everyone should come and have a laugh. We all need a little laughter in our lives, and this is the perfect show to get the job done. This show has a cast of 15 students, so you are sure to love each and every one of them,” added Merchen.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and veterans, $10 for children, and $15 for non-BHSU students. BHSU students, faculty, and staff may attend for free. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at BHSU.edu/BoxOffice. The show contains mature subject materials that may not be suitable for young audiences.
