Black Hills State University recorded an increase in first time freshmen in Fall 2024 for the fourth consecutive year and nearly met the retention record from Fall 2023 at a rate of 71%.

“To be up in first time freshmen and hold a consistent retention rate is no easy task,” President Steve Elliott said. “As Black Hills State University proudly announces the largest freshmen class we've seen since 2019, I am very pleased with the direction our degree-seeking student population is heading and where BHSU is positioned for the future.”
