Black Hills State University honored several alumni during the Alumni Awards Luncheon and the Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet held on the Friday of Swarm Days.
The honors began with the Alumni Awards Luncheon on Sept. 20. The Distinguished Alumna Award was presented to Dr. Priscilla (Young) Romkema ‘79, the Excellence in Education Award to Mark Naugle ‘88, the Special Achievement Award to Terry L. Pechota ‘69, the Young Alumni Achievement Award to Sam Olson ‘14, and the Special Service Award to Dr. Dean Myers, former Dean of Education and Provost at BHSU and Dean of the University Center in Rapid City.
“The BHSU Alumni Association honored five individuals who, over the years, have gone above and beyond in their areas of expertise,” said Tom Wheaton, Director of Alumni Affairs. “The success they have achieved and the commitment they have shown to their respective fields is truly inspiring. Well-deserved honors for each one of them.”
The Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet was held later that same day. The ceremony inducted six individuals and three teams. Inducted individuals include Cain Atkinson, (Men’s Basketball), Luke Enos, (Men’s Basketball), Joe Guttierez, (Football), James E. Hansen, (Men’s Cross Country), Zachary Kintzley (Men’s Cross Country, Track & Field), and Scott Walkinshaw (Coach).
The three teams inducted at the ceremony were the 2001 Men’s Indoor Distance Medley Relay Team, the 2006 Football team, and the 2008 Volleyball Team.
