The 23rd Annual Mark Larscheid Memorial Golf Tournament was held at Spearfish Canyon Golf Club on July 6. The tournament is held in memory of Mark Larscheid, a Black Hills State alumni, athlete, and student. Larscheid lost his life in an automobile accident in 2000. He was a hurdler at BHSU from 1969-1973 and also played football.
This year 144 golfers hit the course to remember Mark. Through the hole sponsors, donations, and the silent auction, $12,000 was raised to add to Mark’s scholarship fund. The scholarship awarded uses investment earnings from the endowment for the scholarship each year. With this year’s donation, the scholarship fund will be over $112,000
The tournament serves as a fundraiser to provide a track and field scholarship to a male or female trackster every year. This past year, Sully Mack, a thrower from Watertown, was the recipient of the Mark Larscheid Memorial Scholarship
The day was made memorable by a putting contest hosted by BHSU track athletes, a steak tip dinner enjoyed by 200 attendees, live music, friends & family gathering, silent auction, team prizes and hole prizes, and team pictures.
Mary Larscheid-Christensen, who hosts the event, would like to thank everyone that played, donated, and attended for making it the best ever day of remembering Mark!
