BLACK HILLS STATE UNIVERSITY HOSTS DAKOTA DREAMS SUMMER CAMP THROUGH SDBOR

The South Dakota Board of Regents and the South Dakota Department of Education are partnering to offer the Dakota Dreams Summer Camp, a week-long camp for 7th and 8th grade students to explore their future careers.

Black Hills State University will host one of the three camps June 26-30. Registration is open until May 1st, and students will be notified of acceptance the week of May 16th. The camp will offer students hands-on learning and exploration in eleven different career paths. Included learning areas will be agriculture, aviation, economics, engineering, health sciences, natural sciences, and teacher education. BHSU is partnering with South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and Western Dakota Technical College to offer students exposure to multiple campuses and careers.

“BHSU is proud to host one of the first Dakota Dreams Career Exploration Summer Camps. The BHSU camp will be a unique experience for any camper as we are not just partnering with one technical college, WDT, but as well as SDSMT in providing students the experience to visit three uniquely different campuses and learn about majors and industries from multiple areas,” said Jin Kim, Director of Career Development at BHSU.

The camp will include day trips to SDSMT and WDT, and students will have afternoon tours of area business and industry followed by evening recreational and social activities with 24/7 counselor supervision.

“The industry tours that the campers will get to experience will all be located in the Black Hills in the fields of technical careers to the world of business,” said Director Kim.

All transportation for day trips and tours as well as meals and on-campus housing is provided. The camp is free of charge, funded by a grant by the South Dakota Board of Education. The camp will accept 50 participants. For more information, visit Black Hills State University Summer Camps or email careers@bhsu.edu.
