BHSU Homecoming Queen and King crowned during Swarm Week

Black Hills State University students Mikkayla DeBolt, business administration major from Sheridan, Wyo., and Daxton Keegan, special education major from Belle Fourche, were crowned the 2018 Swarm Days Queen and King at coronation Thursday evening.

DeBolt serves as vice president for University Ambassadors and volunteers with the Thompson Diversion Program. She enjoys working in the Student Engagement and Leadership Center at BHSU as the chair of the Swarm Days Committee. DeBolt enjoys outdoor activities including camping, hiking, and biking.
Keegan was part of the BHSU International Service Learning course that traveled to Africa to teach in a school. He is currently preparing to travel to the Philippines in November with his BHSU classmates as part of the same program. Keegan also represents the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences in the Student Senate.

Candidates for Swarm Days Queen included: Allison Geier-Barlow, business marketing and graphic design major from Roscoe; Tayler Lenz, science education major from Sioux Falls; Amie Taylor, biology major from Fairview, Mont.; and Taylor Watkins, environmental physical science major from Beresford.

Candidates for Swarm Days King included: Elliott Anderson, biology major from Canton; Kyle Graves, graphic communication and theatre major from Rapid City; Jess Johnson, business administration major from Gillette, Wyo.; and Wyatt Osthus, English and mass communication major from Rapid City.
The theme of this year’s Swarm Week is “Sting Goes Worldwide.” Swarm Week festivities continue Friday with the Alumni Awards Luncheon, the Yellow Jacket Hall of Fame Banquet, and the Homecoming Dance.

Saturday the Swarm Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the Donald E. Young Sports and Fitness Center parking lot. The Parade will proceed down St. Joe Street, Jackson Blvd. and then Main Street. Community members are invited to a tailgate social at 11:15 a.m. at Ida Henton Park. The Swarm Day football game vs. Dixie State University begins at 1 p.m. at Lyle Hare Stadium.
