Find your voice: Presenting Ideas with Competence Workshop Series

Do you speak in front of small or large groups? How about giving presentations? Do you sometimes get interviewed by the media for your company?

As you take on more responsibility in your workplace and career, your communication skills can help you succeed or can impede your advancement. In any profession or business role, you must be able to communicate in ways to gain support for your ideas, influence decision-making, and motivate others to take action.

The South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO) is proud to announce the upcoming workshop series: Find Your Voice: Presenting Ideas with Competence. The two full-day events are August 16 and August 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Black Hills State University-Rapid City in room 124. There will be a break for lunch on your own each day.

In this two-day program, you will learn the communication principles and techniques used by the world’s most successful speakers. A study of these principles will help you become more persuasive as you convey your ideas to clients, customers, and organizational members. Through experiential exercises and small group activities, you will put these principles into practice and learn to communicate with confidence, clarity, and conviction. You will return to the workplace with the skills to influence and motivate others.

Presented by Dr. Sonya Pagel, an Associate Professor of Communication Studies at BHSU, and Dr. Pamela Wegner, a recently retired professor of Speech and Theatre at BHSU. The topics covered include determining your presentation purpose, adapting to various audiences and situations, structuring your message to achieve your business objectives, capturing and holding the attention of your listeners, learning delivery techniques involving impression management, body language, vocal variety and more!

This program is appropriate for business professionals at all levels of experience who would like to be more effective at communicating with others.
