BHSU launches mobile app for campus activities

Black Hills State University invites the community to download a free mobile app to stay up-to-date with campus and community events. Access the app through the App Store or Google Play Store by searching for "BHSU Campus Activities."

Black Hills State University has a new mobile app for campus activities.

The app is available through the App Store or Google Play Store by searching "BHSU Campus Activities."

Erica Whitiker, student union and activities assistant director at BHSU, said the app is a place for students, parents, faculty, staff, and community members to keep informed about what is happening on campus.

"Many of us use our mobile devices to access information. With this new mobile app, students and parents can quickly find important campus phone numbers, find out what activities are going on around campus, and search for campus clubs and organizations," says Whitiker.

Whitiker says the public can register for the free app as an "Alumni" or "Parent" in order to access descriptions of music, theatre, and athletics events the community can attend, to view a campus map, and much more.

Through the app, students have additional access and can complete academic tasks including contacting their campus recruitment and retention specialist, accessing portals to view course materials, and reading important information on resources that BHSU offers.

Justin Logue, BHSU Student Senate President, said he's looking forward to using the app to communicate with club members and to gauge what types of events the campus community enjoys.

"Students can check in at events and upload photos. Then they can scan through a 'highlight reel' of all the campus events they've attended throughout the year," says Logue.

This year, the University is giving away a free meal plan to a student who attends 90 percent of the campus Orientation Week activities. Students use the new app to indicate their presence at the events in order to be entered into the free meal plan drawing.

Residence Hall move-in-day at BHSU is Friday, Aug. 18. The BHSU Orientation Week follows with events during the first week of classes including academic prep sessions, campus tours, community service projects, canoe trip, and a first day of class pool party.

Businesses are encouraged to wear BHSU apparel on Friday, Aug. 18 when new students are moving to Spearfish. BHSU Night at Downtown Friday Nights in Spearfish is also Aug. 18, followed by the Campus and Community Fair Sunday, Aug. 20 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the Young Center Field House.
