BHSU and S.D. Dept. of Tourism announce winners in World Tourism Day photo contest

BHSU and the S.D. Dept. of Tourism announced that a photograph taken by BHSU student Madison Hand, mass communication major from Midland, won first place in the World Tourism Day photo contest. The exhibit is on display in Meier Hall on the BHSU campus until Dec. 5.

BHSU and the S.D. Dept. of Tourism announced that a photograph taken by BHSU student Jenna Shultz, mass communication major from Rapid City, won the "Tourism for All" category in the World Tourism Day photo contest. The exhibit is on display in Meier Hall on the BHSU campus until Dec. 5.

Black Hills State University and the South Dakota Department of Tourism are proud to announce the winners of this year's Photography Contest and Exhibition held in conjunction with World Tourism Day.

The theme of World Tourism Day and this year's photo contest was "Tourism for All: Promoting Universal Accessibility." A special category was created in the photo competition focusing on tourism and universal access.

Dr. Ignatius Cahyanto, assistant professor of tourism and hospitality management at BHSU, said the contest entries represent a unique perspective.

"These students are the future of the travel and tourism industry," said Cahyanto, also coordinator of the World Tourism Day event held Oct. 5 at BHSU.

This year's winners:
  • 1st Place:  Madison Hand, mass communication major at BHSU from Midland
  • 2nd Place: Richard Walbe, mass communication major at BHSU from Deadwood
  • 3rd Place: Dustin Voss, mass communication major at BHSU from Spearfish
  • "Tourism for All" category: Jenna Shultz, mass communication major at BHSU from Rapid City
  • People's Choice: Madison Hand, mass communication major at BHSU from Midland
The World Tourism Day Photo Competition Exhibit opened Wednesday, Oct. 5 in Meier Hall, BHSU Campus. The exhibits closes Dec. 5.
