Cecily Running Wolf to build marketing career

Cecily Running Wolf, Rapid City, will earn her degree in mass communication during the BHSU 170th Commencement Ceremony Saturday, Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. in the Donald E. Young Sports and Fitness Center.

Cecily Running Wolf is using her love of health sciences and communications to build a career as a marketer in the dental field.

Running Wolf is earning her degree in mass communication with an emphasis in science communication Dec. 12.

"I love to make smiles, and even more, I love to make smiles more beautiful," Running Wolf said. That's why she is so pleased to have a position marketing dental services.

Running Wolf earned her associate degree in health science from BHSU, and after working in a dental office as an intern, she discovered she loved working on the administrative side of dentistry. That inspired her to continue her education, pursuing a bachelor's degree in mass communication.

Running Wolf completed an internship with Deadwood Dental where she handled their digital and social media marketing. She also received hands-on marketing experience through her job at the BHSU University Bookstore where she was employed during her entire time at BHSU.

Running Wolf spent much time with the BHSU campus community, serving as a Presidential Student Ambassador, Yellow Jacket cheerleader and University Bookstore employee. All three activities greatly encouraged Running Wolf to be outgoing and bold and created opportunities to learn leadership skills.

"I knew early on that I wanted to do something in the leadership role," Running Wolf said. "By joining the Presidential Student Ambassadors that is exactly what I became, a leader."

The Presidential Student Ambassadors and her work at the University Bookstore allowed her to learn valuable networking skills as well. She says she enjoyed getting to know the BHSU President, Spearfish mayor and faculty and staff across campus. While building those relationships she was building her own confidence.

As she earns her degree Saturday, Running Wolf adds that she is very blessed to receive an education from BHSU. Degrees from BHSU are a legacy for the Running Wolf family.

"I've made so many good friends and had so many amazing things happen to me while at Black Hills State," Running Wolf said. "I will miss cheering on the field. I will miss walking through the hallways and saying hello to your friends. I'll even miss the challenge of having 10 papers to write. I will miss all of it."
