How My Advisor Can Help Me

Not sure if you should drop a class? Wondering if you're in the right major? No matter where you're at in your college journey, your academic advisor is here to help you successfully navigate college and prepare for a fulfilling career. Advisors at BHSU use a holistic advising model that considers students’ multiple identities and understands that multiple elements affect a student’s college experience.

Your advisor can help you:

  • Declare or change your major
  • Create your graduation plan
  • Set academic, personal and professional goals
  • Register for classes
  • Access support services
  • Discuss success strategies
  • And so much more...

First and second-year students at BHSU have a professional advisor in the Student Success Center or the TRIO program. Once students on main campus have completed 60 credits, they transition to a faculty advisor in their program of study who will mentor them throughout the remainder of their journey. TRIO students, as well as students taking classes in Rapid City, remain with their professional advisor throughout their college experience.
