Education grad reflects on student teaching during COVID-19

Student teachers across the U.S. are adapting to the sudden changes in education caused by the COVID-19 pandemic including Black Hills State University senior Rachel Kremer of Billings, Mont., who is finishing her final weeks of student teaching at Sundance Elementary in Wyoming. Rachel will begin her master’s degree at the University of Arkansas next month where she received a full tuition scholarship because of her involvement at BHSU.

More than 100 BHSU students honored for volunteerism and service during online awards ceremony

More than 100 Black Hills State University students, plus faculty, staff, and administrators, gathered virtually for the 28th Annual Student Volunteer Awards Ceremony. The pandemic, which has kept students off campus, did not stop BHSU students from gathering online last week to celebrate the achievements of their peers. Dr. Erica Whitiker, associate director of the Student Union and Campus Activities, said the transition of the event to an online format due to COVID-19 was well received.

$10,000 scholarships to BHSU available to high school seniors

High school seniors who attend Black Hills State University may be eligible for $10,000 scholarships, thanks to a donation by T. Denny Sanford to the Horatio Alger Association Endowment. Fifteen scholarships of $10,000 each are dedicated to incoming students at BHSU. The Denny Sanford Scholarship application is open until March 15 at:

BHSU named a Top 10 Military Friendly® School

Black Hills State University was named a Top 10 Military Friendly® School by VIQTORY media company. The university earned the Top 10 ranking in the small public university category. BHSU earned high rankings in the “Culture & Commitment” and “Military Student Support & Retention” categories of the Military Friendly® benchmarks.
