Upon graduation from Smith College with a B.S. degree in zoology, I entered graduate school at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.There I earned a master’s degree in entomology in 1982 and a doctorate in entomology in 1986.Areas of teaching include survey biology courses, animal behavior, and entomology.I have published a number of papers in internationally recognized journals and have a published book chapter on glands and gland function in social insects. Current research interests include 1) wasp distributions and nest architecture and 2) ant diversity in the Black Hills. I am presently involved in the following service organizations: Faculty Senate, Sigma Xi (local chapter), and various other committees/boards.
