It is with a troubled heart that we write this note of concern and support for the Black community. The events over the last few weeks and following the tragic senseless deaths of African Americans in Georgia, Kentucky, and Minnesota have yet again brought racial injustices to the forefront.

Riley Donnelly of Elk Point and Karli Verhulst of Reva were named recipients of the Joe and Elaine Floyd Scholarship at Black Hills State University. Donnelly and Verhulst will each receive a $17,000 scholarship when they attend BHSU this fall.
Starting a job during the COVID-19 pandemic meant Katie Wolff, studio art major at Black Hills State University, needed to adapt quickly. Katie is the education coordinator at the Dahl Arts Center in Rapid City and was honored with the Spirit of BH award this spring at BHSU.
Black Hills State University responded to the call when Monument Health requested assistance to create an airborne isolation shield in response to COVID-19. The shield is available for use in the Emergency Department at Monument Health Spearfish Hospital to protect caregivers.
