Employers recruit BHSU students during Accounting Fair

Fifteen employers were on campus recently to recruit Black Hills State University accounting students for jobs and internships. More than 160 students attended and met with employers during the BHSU Accounting Fair, held both in Spearfish and at BHSU-Rapid City.

“Employers are pleased with our BHSU accounting students. In fact, many times the biggest concern employers have is how they can recruit more of our talented accounting students,” said Laura Prosser, assistant professor at BHSU.

Students of all levels were encouraged to attend the BHSU Accounting Fair. Prosser said one unique aspect of the fair is the Accounting Jam, where students hear directly from accountants about their jobs.

Prosser said one of the greatest benefits of the fair is that students have the opportunity to network with accountants from area firms and businesses in a professional setting.

“These networking relationships can grow as students move through their degree program and are often instrumental in helping our students find career opportunities in their chosen field,” said Prosser.

Dana Weber, retention and recruitment specialist with the College of Business and Natural Sciences at BHSU, said employers made several offers to students as a result of the fair.

“Our students have a strong work ethic and that, combined with their academic preparation, gives them a solid foundation as they start their accounting careers,” said Prosser.

The fair was started by accounting faculty at BHSU and is held each fall. Accounting faculty involved in the fair include Don Altmyer, Dr. David Crawford, Robin Meyerink, and Laura Prosser.
