Black Hills State University thanks area businesses and community members for wearing bright green BHSU t-shirts to welcome students back to campus last month. The University invites the community to once again show their Yellow Jacket pride during the rescheduled BHSU Night at Downtown Friday Nights on Sept. 9 in Spearfish.

"Students are back on campus and exploring the Spearfish and northern hills communities. We're excited for them to join in the fun at Downtown Friday Nights during BHSU Night and for them to continue to see the great support for BHSU," said Corinne Hansen, director of University and Community Relations at BHSU. "This is a great college town. Our students love Spearfish. BHSU Night is an opportunity for alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends of the university to get together downtown to celebrate the unique synergy in this community."

During move-in day last month, families and students commented about the warm reception and welcoming atmosphere they felt seeing community members wear BHSU attire.

Pat Doyle, owner of the Spearfish Perkins restaurant, said his staff is proud to show their support for the University. The frontline staff at Perkins has made a tradition of wearing BHSU shirts during welcome week and also during Swarm Week and commencement weekend in the fall and spring. Doyle said it's a visual reminder of their support and appreciation for BHSU, the alumni, the students and their families.

Bright green BHSU t-shirts are still available to all community members and businesses by contacting BHSU at 605-642-6215 or stopping by Woodburn Hall, room 102. In exchange for the shirts, BHSU asks patrons to wear the shirts on Friday, Sept. 9 and to make a donation to the Spearfish Community Food Pantry. Donations will be accepted on behalf of the Pantry at the BHSU booth at Downtown Friday Nights Sept. 9. T-shirts will also be available at the booth that evening.

Activities planned for the evening include a photo booth, children's activities, an artist demonstration by Jenny Braig in front of the Jacket Zone, and a performance by the Beeline (BHSU Drumline), in addition to live music by cover band Blue Street.
