BHSU to host Wenona Cook Studio Tour highlight students' work

Pet Rock Adopt-A-Thon: The Black Hills State University Art Club will host a Pet Rock Adopt-A-Thon on Wednesday, Dec. 2, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Jacket Zone in downtown Spearfish. Funds from the event will be used for the Art Club's annual trip to the Denver Art Festival.

The Black Hills State University Art club will try to find a home for some colorful, but lonely pet rocks. Students and community members are invited to Jacket Zone to find or create their very own pet rocks.

The BHSU Art club will host a Pet Rock Adopt-A-Thon-a fundraising event. The community and BHSU students are invited to attend the Pet Rock Adopt-A-Thon on Wednesday, Dec. 2, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Jacket Zone in downtown Spearfish.

A pet rock can be adopted with a free will donation. The Art Club will paint and decorate the rocks before and during the event. Attendees will have opportunity to decorate their own pet rock, as well. Rocks and art supplies will be provided.

According to Jessica Hill, art and graphic design communication major from Bowman, N.D., and president of the BHSU Art Club, donators who adopt the pet rocks will get certificates of adoption and health checks on the rocks before they leave for their new home. All proceeds will be used to help Art Club for their annual trip to the Denver Art Festival.

"It's a unique idea that we never have done before. The event will be fun and creative. Students and community members will get the opportunity to get their very own pet rock, and especially for those students living on campus, it's not easy to have a pet. But a pet rock has little maintenance and is very suitable to live in the dorm rooms," said Hill.

The event is free for BHSU students and community members. For more information please contact Jami.Schoenewies@bhsu.edu.
