The grand opening of Einstein Bros Bagels

Hot coffee and bagels are on the menu at Black Hills State University. Einstein Bros Bagels is now open to the public. The bagel shop, operated by A'viands, is located in the E.Y. Berry Library-Learning Center.

The national coffee and bagel chain is the newest addition to E.Y. Berry Library-Learning Center. Einstein Bros Bagels is open 5 days a week, Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed on Saturday and Sunday.

"Einstein's Bagels will bring expanded food offerings to our students and provide them with a new dining option to use throughout the day," said Ron Showman, director of Food Service and A'viands dining services at BHSU.

It's not just about bagels anymore. People are turning to Einstein Bros Bagels for its diverse menu ranging from gourmet, to-go coffee and specialty coffee drinks, fresh-baked bagels and signature double-whipped shmears, made-to-order (all day) egg sandwiches and hot and cold deli sandwiches, salads and soups, and fresh baked goods.

"Einstein's has 18 current staff members that are made up of four full-time employees and 14 student workers. Most of these student workers also work in the main dining area (the Hive) as well as at Einstein's so you will continue to see them at both locations," says Showman.

Jordan Hauger, applied health sciences major with a specialty in pre-nursing from Yankton, is one of the employees at Einstein Bros Bagels and believes the new food offerings will be great for students.

"I believe Einstein's will encourage more off campus students to spend more time on campus as well as offering a wide variety of unique menu items that we didn't have previously. The products are baked daily in the library in our new prep room," adds Hauger.

Hauger believes the library will become a more comfortable place to study by providing alternative meals for everyone who aims for convenience.

Einstein Bros Bagels has 900+ stores in 43 states. They have nearly 250 campus locations.

University officials confirmed in the spring of 2015 that a deal had been struck for Einstein Bros Bagels to open up in the E.Y. Berry Library-Learning Center, providing more dining options for students on campus.

The addition of Einstein Bros. Bagels is part of several campus improvement projects at BHSU. A grand opening celebration was held earlier this week with a ribbon-cutting followed by samples of food.
