Accessing the L-Drive from an On-Campus Computer 

Windows XP/Vista/7

1. Login to a BHSU computer with faculty/staff/student credentials.
2. Open My Computer or Computer.
3. Double click on bhsufiles on bhsu-sfs (L:) or Disconnected Network Drive (L:).
4. Navigate to the desired folder.

Mac OS X

1. Click on the background on the Mac with the left mouse button to activate the Finder toolbar if not already at the top.
2. On the Finder toolbar, click on Go.
3. Select Connect to Server.
4. Type in https://ldrive.bhsu.edu/ldrive for accessing the L Drive
   a.    If accessing the MacShare enter in the following https://ldrive.bhsu.edu/macshare
5. Enter in user credentials with Firstname.Lastname format.
6. Navigate to desired folders.

Still having problems?
If you are accessing the L Drive from an on-campus computer, logging in with your BHSU Username and Password and it does not show up in My Computer, try the following.

1. Log off the machine and log back on.
2. Reboot the machine.

If it still does not show up on the computer please click one of the following links from Internet Explorer.

• Windows L Drive Secure Access over HTTPS (Internet Explorer Only)
• MacShare Secure Access over HTTPS (Internet Explorer Only)

If you cannot save a file to your L Drive folder, please read the following.

• Are you sure you are saving to the correct folder?
• If you are accessing it through the web page you must drag and drop your files from your computer to the web folder window.

Accessing the L-Drive from an Off Campus Computer

Windows XP

1. Open My Computer.
2. In the menu on the left within the Other Places section, click on My Network Places.
3. In My Network Places in the menu on the left, find Add a network place, this will start the Add Network Place Wizard, click Next.
4. On the Where do you want to create this network place? window, select Choose another network location. Specify the address of a Website, network location or FTP site. After selecting click Next.
5. On the What is the address of this network place? window, type in either bullet (a) or (b) below (depending if you are accessing the L Drive or MacShare) in the Internet or network address: field. Click Next after entering in the address as indicated below.

      for accessing the L Drive
       
   2. https://ldrive.bhsu.edu/macshare/
      for accessing the MacShare 
        
6. Enter in user credentials with Firstname.Lastname format
7. On the What do you want to name this place? window, in the Type a name for this network place: field, name it L Drive, .
8. At the Completing the Add Network Place Wizard, leave the box checked to Open this network place when I click Finish. Click Finish.
9. Navigate to desired folders.
10. Before closing My Network Places, copy the L Drive network place folder within the window to the users desktop for easy access.

Windows Vista

1. Open Computer
2. Right-click in the windows blank area and select Add a network location.
3. On the Add Network Location Wizard, click Next.
4. On the Where do you want to create this network location? window, select Choose a custom network location, Specify the address of a website, network location or FTP site. Click Next.
5. On the Specify the location of your website window, type in either bullet (a) or (b) below (depending if you are accessing the L Drive or MacShare) in the Internet or network address: field. Click Next after entering in the address as indicated below. 
   1. https://ldrive.bhsu.edu/ldrive/
      for accessing the L Drive
        
   2. https://ldrive.bhsu.edu/macshare/
      for accessing the MacShare
        
6. Enter in user credentials with Firstname.Lastname format
7. On the What do you want to name this location? window, in the Type a name for this network location: field, name it L Drive, 
8. Navigate to desired folders.
9. Before closing Computer, copy the L Drive network place folder within the window to the users desktop for easy access.

Windows 7

1. Open Computer
2. Right-click in the windows blank area and select Add a network location.
3. On the Add Network Location Wizard window, click Next.
4. On the Where do you want to create this network location? window, select Choose a custom network location, Specify the address of a website, network location or FTP site. Click Next.
5. On the Specify the location of your website window, type in either bullet (a) or (b) below (depending if you are accessing the L Drive or MacShare) in the Internet or network address: field. Click Next after entering in the address as indicated below.

      for accessing the L Drive
        
   2. https://ldrive.bhsu.edu/macshare/ 
      for accessing the MacShare
       
6. Enter in user credentials with Firstname.Lastname format
7. On the What do you want to name this location? window, in the Type a name for this network location: field, name it L Drive. 
8. Navigate to desired folders.
9. Before closing Computer, copy the L Drive network place folder within the window to the users desktop for easy access.

Mac OS X

1. Download Goliath for Mac OS X.
2. Once downloaded, drag the Goliath 1.0.1 folder to Applications.
3. Navigate to Applications.
4. Open the Goliath 1.0.1 folder.
5. Open the Goliath 1.0.1 Application.
6. On the New WebDAV Connection prompt, enter in the one of the following URLs depending if you are accessing the L Drive or MacShare.
   1. https://ldrive.bhsu.edu/ldrive/
      for accessing the L Drive
       
   2. https://ldrive.bhsu.edu/macshare/
      for accessing the MacShare
       
7. Enter in user credentials with Firstname.Lastname format.
8. Don't do anything under Advanced Settings.
9. Click OK.
10. Navigate to desired folders.
11. Before closing Goliath, click File from the Goliath menu, and select, Save Connection.
12. Save it as L Drive, specify a location and click Save.

Still having Problems?
If you are having trouble accessing the L Drive, ask yourself these questions before going further. If you answer, No, to any of the following questions, please take the proper measures needed.

• Do you have your username and password?
  You must retrieve your username and password from the following site. http://www.BHSU.edu/LoginHelp
• Are you using your entire email address as your username?
  In some cases, such as long usernames, your username must be your email address.
• Has your instructor requested a folder for you and/or your class?
  You may not even need access to the L Drive if your instructor does not require it.
• Are you clicking on the correct folder?
  Make sure you are accessing the correct folder.
• Is your computer up-to-date with the latest patches and Service Packs available from Microsoft?
  Get the latest updates and patches from http://update.microsoft.com.
• Are you using Microsoft Internet Explorer as your browser?
  Browsers like Firefox and Netscape may not allow you to copy and paste items from your computer to the L Drive.
• Is your name the same as it was when you first received your L Drive folder?
  Inform your instructor your name has changed and you are having L Drive problems.
• Are you still a student at Black Hills State University?
  Your account is no longer active. It will be active again when you are enrolled in classes.

Accessing the L-Drive from an On or Off Campus Computer

Windows XP/Vista/7

1. Open Internet Explorer 7 or 8
2. Go to the L-Drive. 
   This will redirect the user to the L Drive login landing page
3. Click on either
   1. LOGIN: Windows L Drive Secure Access over HTTPS (Internet Explorer Only) to login to the L Drive
   2. LOGIN: MacShare Secure Access over HTTPS (Internet Explorer Only) to login to the MacShare
4. Enter in user credentials with Firstname.Lastname format
5. Navigate to desired folders

Mac OS X 

1. Left click the background on the Mac to activate the Finder toolbar if not already at the top.
2. On the Finder toolbar, click Go.
3. Select Connect to Server.
4. Type in either
   1.  https://ldrive.bhsu.edu/ldrive for accessing the L Drive
   2. https://ldrive.bhsu.edu/macshare for accessing the MacShare   
5. Enter in user credentials with Firstname.Lastname format
6. Navigate to desired folders

Apple Computers
Apple systems are compatible with most systems at Black Hills State University, however, they do encounter problems when accessing BHSU WebDAV folders such as L Drive and the MacShare. Please read the following bulleted items to understand the issue.

• On the Finder bar, click Go and select Connect to Server... from the drop down menu.
• Next, under Server Address: type in the following, https://ldrive.bhsu.edu/ldrive or https://ldrive.bhsu.edu/macshare. 
• You will then be prompted for your username and password. After entering your information you may be prompted to re-authenticate several times.
• Due to the security of the folder structure, you will be asked to authenticate several more times for each folder that is opened and for each file you access, and even for no reason at all. The Apple system will also tell the user that The user name or password you entered is not valid. Please try again. when the information is in fact correct.

To avoid or workaround these problems please review the following resolutions:

• Download and install 3rd party software, Goliath downloadable from www.webdav.org has worked successfully. Run the application, then input https://ldrive.bhsu.edu/ldrive or https://ldrive.bhsu.edu/macshare, for the URL and enter your username and password to login.
• Or... Instead of accessing it from an Apple computer, it is also recommended that your files be downloaded onto a Microsoft machine, copied onto a USB device or other media, then copy it from the media to the Apple machine. Doing the reverse to post it back to the L Drive.
