The Center for Economic Education at Black Hills State University is offering free teacher training workshops for the South Dakota Stock Market Game (SDSMG) Program Feb. 1 from 10 a.m. to noon. The spring session starts Monday, Feb. 11 and concludes its 10-week trading period Friday, Apr. 18.
The SDSMG is a real-time online stock market simulation where teams of college, middle, and high school students research and purchase a portfolio of stocks. It is the only stock market simulation endorsed by the South Dakota Council on Economic Education and integrates with the mandated personal finance classes for high school graduation. The program emphasizes the importance of saving, long-term investing, and performing independent research before buying shares of a particular company.
The Feb. 1 training workshop includes curriculum materials, lesson plans and investing research tools to integrate the program into a variety of subjects and grade levels. Workshop seating is limited.
