The Black Hills State University enactus students and the South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO), the women’s business center at BHSU, will host Facebook for Retirees Thursday, Nov. 7 from 4-6 p.m. in Jonas Hall, Room 205 on the BHSU campus.
Facebook for Retirees is a workshop to help retirees become more comfortable with the basics of Facebook.
To optimize their learning experience, participants should bring any log-in information for both current Facebook accounts and email accounts. In the view of enactus Project Manager Abbey VanSteenwyk, a senior accounting major from Sturgis, "Facebook is a great way to connect with family and close friends and to learn how to use privacy settings with accuracy to ensure that any information on an account remains safely in the owner’s control."
Enactus is an international organization that mobilizes university students around the world to make a difference in their communities while developing skills to become socially responsible business leaders.
This is the second year enactus students have staged the workshop with the SD CEO. According to enactus co-advisor Dr. Bobbi Looney, a professor of management in the BHSU School of Business, “the workshop gives our students an opportunity to work one-on-one with some of our senior citizens. Through the experience, the students come to appreciate more pointedly the value of having opportunities for intergenerational cooperation.” Both parties benefit, Looney noted.
The SD CEO is a part of a network of more than 110 centers nationwide established through the Small Business Association.
