The Dakota Chamber Orchestra, in residency at Black Hills State University, will present a fall concert, titled, “International Tour,” Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2:30 p.m. in the Clare and Josef Meier Recital Hall.
The Orchestra will perform the “English Folk Song Suite,” one of English composer Ralph Vaughn Williams’ most famous works for military bands. Percy Hall’s dramatic set of “Variations on America” (“My Country 'Tis of Thee”) will also be performed. The four musical pictures of complacency, destruction, grieving, and resolve within “Variations of America” represent the before, during, and aftermath of the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. A triumphant return to the theme represents the enduring and revitalized spirit of Americans.
According to Dr. Randall Royer, Orchestra director and professor of music at BHSU, the piece is presented to mark the 10th anniversary of the attacks of 9-11.
Admission to the concert is free and open to the public. Donations for scholarships are welcome. For more information, contact Royer at 642-6255.
