Black Hills State University students are making headlines and transforming their lives.

BHSU senior mass communication majors David Poitra Belle Fourche; Tristen Upward, Vermillion; and Brian Gebhart; Elkton; will be presenting virtually with Dr. Mary Caton-Rosser, BHSU assistant professor of mass communication, at EDULEARN11, the third annual International Conference on Education and New Learning Technologies in Barcelona, Spain. They will be presenting research entitled “Socially Learning: Building Campus-Community Bridges with Social Media and Service Learning.” The project was funded last year by the Midwest Consortium, which helped form a virtual cross campus/community forum at ning.com, with more than 125 members.

Joseph D. Manthey, integrative genomics graduate student from Fond Du Lac, Wis.; Dr. Garth M. Spellman, BHSU assistant professor of science; and John Klicka, Univesity of Nevada - Las Vegas; had their paper entitled "Cryptic diversity in a widespread North American songbird: Phylogeographyof the Brown Creeper (Certhia americana)" published in the Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution Journal. The article covers phylogeography, identifying cryptic diversity, and speciation of the Brown Creeper.
