The Black Hills State University men’s Rodeo Team won the recent Jackrabbit Stampede in Brookings with 1355 points. The BHSU women’s team finished in third place at the event with 345 points.
Tom Hunt, sophomore from Faith, won the Men’s All-Around Title, placing first in tie-down roping and fourth in team roping in the first go around and receiving second place in steer wrestling and team roping in the second go around. Jamie Britton, freshman from Buffalo, placed first in breakaway roping during the first go around. P.J. Painter, senior from Buffalo, won the Reserve All-Around Cowboy by finishing first in team roping and seventh in steer wrestling in the first go around and finishing second in tie-down roping, fifth in steer wrestling and sixth in team roping in the second go around. Sophomore Taylor Williams, Volborg, Mont., placed fourth in tie-down roping in the first go around and second in the second go around. Kyle Albers, sophomore from Hartford, had a sixth place finish in steer wrestling in the first go around with a fifth place finish during the second go around. Junior Tye Hale, White Owl, placed fourth in team roping during the first go around and finished second during the second go around. Jordyn Johnson, sophomore from Sturgis, placed fifth in barrel racing in the first go around. Freshman Joey Painter, Buffalo, finished second in goat tying; and Taylor Shoemaker, freshman from Faith, placed sixth in the same event in the first go around. Junior Haley Anderson, Spearfish, finished fifth in breakaway roping in the first go around.
Sixteen teams from the Great Plains Region competed in the Jackrabbit Stampede.
The Yellow Jacket Rodeo Team competes at the University of Lincoln Rodeo in Lincoln, Neb., April 16-17; then they host the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede held April 23-24 at the Seven Down Arena in Spearfish.
