Bruce Byrum, president of First Western Bank in Spearfish, presents a $10,000 check to Dr. Kay Schallenkamp, president of Black Hills State University; and Steve Meeker, vice president for University Advancement. The donation is the third installment towards a $50,000 pledge to establish the First Western Bank Scholarship Endowment.
The First Western Bank Scholarship is awarded annually to freshmen from western South Dakota majoring in business. According to the agreement, the scholarship recipient must enroll in a minimum of 15 credit hours per semester and have a minimum 2.5 grade point average.
Schallenkamp stated, “We are very pleased that First Western is investing in the future of South Dakota with this scholarship at BHSU. Their generous donation will provide educational opportunities for future students at BHSU.”
The BHSU College of Business and Technology currently offers associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degree programs in a wide range of academic programs, from accounting and management to marketing and tourism. For a complete list of degree options, visit the college's program page.
