The Yellow Jackets got off to a slow start tonight against Dakota Wesleyan University but finished strong as they won the match 3-0. Coming into the game tonight the Yellow Jackets were 10-0 to start their season. “The other night we didn’t really feel like we played all that well. We came out tonight wanting to start out on a positive note” said Coach Albers.
The first game went back and forth with Dakota Wesleyan and the Yellow Jackets being tied at 12-12. The Yellow Jackets then went on an 18-2 run to close out the game winning 30-14. Setter Mandy Brumfield really set the tone early. “Mandy’s timing on all of her sets really helped start the 18-2 run” added Coach Albers.
Games two and three were very similar with the score being close until the 10 point mark when BHSU went on to finish with a strong run. The Yellow Jackets won both games by a score of 30-20.
The Yellow Jackets were led in kills by freshman Maggie O’Neill with 11 and sophomore Kristin Engle added 10. Mandy Brumfield led the team in assists with 30. “We really served the ball well to start the match tonight. We had 8 aces as a team which is a very positive stat to take from tonight” said Coach Albers.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action next Friday and Saturday night as they take on Mayville State University and Valley City State University. Both games will be played in the Donald E. Young Center at 7:00pm.
