Spearfish, S.D. – Black Hills State University football player Forrest Sainsbury was named the Defensive Player of the Week by the NAIA and the Dakota Athletic Conference for his effort in the Yellow Jackets 14-13 overtime win over Wisconsin-Stout on Saturday.

Sainsbury, a 6-1, 215 lbs., senior linebacker from Camp Crook, S.D., registered 13 tackles (8 solo), including 2.0 sacks and 4.5 tackles-for-loss.  He was part of a defense to hold Wisconsin-Stout to 46 yards rushing for an average of 1.5 yards per carry.

“Forest (Sainsbury) has really stepped up as a leader of this team,” said head coach Jay Long.  “Forest plays this game at a very high level and that makes everyone around him better as well. He is truly out there flying around and having fun.”

Sainsbury is having a very strong showing only two games into the season.  He is currently ranked fourth in NAIA in tackles-for-loss with 4.5 and eighth in the nation for sacks with two.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action Saturday, September 18 against the Jamestown Jimmies in a Dakota Athletic Conference match-up in Jamestown, N.D. at 1 p.m. CT/12 noon MT.
