Des Moines, Iowa – The Black Hills State University football team was defeated 28-0 by No. 20 Grand View in the season opener on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa. Black Hills State falls to 0-1 on the season and Grand View moves to 1-0.
“This is not the way we wanted to start this season,” said head coach Jay Long. “But, we are a young team and we are going to have to bounce back. Grand View is a team loaded with juniors and seniors where we have over 75 freshmen and sophomores. Our guys are learning and they will have to get better for next week.”
After a scoreless first quarter, the Yellow Jackets fell behind 7-0 on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Greg Charles to Lester Moffett. The score remained 7-0 at halftime.
Grand View tacked on three rushing touchdowns in the third quarter. Darryl Ford scored twice on a pair of 5-yard runs and Dante Simms added the final score for the Vikings on a 3-yard run.
The Yellow Jackets were led defensively by senior defensive end Wacey Coleman who posted two sacks on the day.
Long said, “We will go back and watch film of this game and evaluate where we are. We are going to look for the guys who are giving the most effort. Those guys are going to see the field a lot.”
