Greeley, Colo. – The Black Hills State University track and field team competed at the Tom Benich Track and Field Classic at Northern Colorado.  No team scores were tallied, however, the Yellow Jackets finished with 12 athletes in the top ten.

On the men’s side, Jason Boeding finished fifth in the men’s shot-put with a distance of 15.85-meters.  In the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase K.C. Fielder finished ninth after he recorded a time of 10:05.36.  Jonathon Grace finished the men’s triple jump in tenth with a jump of 13.10-meters.  Cameron Dean finished in fifth place with a time of 54.24 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles.

The Yellow Jackets had a strong showing on the women’s side.  Cody Milbourn finished the hammer throw in fourth place with a distance of 52.34-meters.  Milbourn also finished seventh in the shot put with a distance of 12.29-meters.  In the javelin, Jessica Ayre threw 33.79-meters earning her sixth place.  Shannon Hellman finished second in 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.89 seconds.  Hellman also finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.11.  Nikki Shinkle had a strong showing in the 400-meter hurdles as she finished with a time of 1:04.41 to earn her fourth place.  The women’s 5000-meter run saw two Jackets in the top five.  Wendy O’Lexey finished third with a time of 18:33.98 and teammate Katie Cook finished fifth with a time of 19:23.66.

The Yellow Jackets will return to competition on Friday, April 9 at the Blue Hawk Games in Dickinson, N.D.
