The BHSU Lady Yellow Jacket women’s golf team wrapped up their fall season at the NAIA National Preview tournament in Rapid City, SD.  After a half season of play the Jackets are having their most successful season in the short history of the program.  Going into the spring season the Jackets find themselves in great position as they are sitting on top of the Dakota Athletic Conference.

The women’s golf season opened September 6th & 7th in Dickinson, ND with the annual Blue Hawk Invite.  With some key additions to the team this season the Jackets looked to be a very competitive team within the conference and proved that with a first place finish in the first tournament of the year.  Led by senior AJ Rolfson and sophomore Katelynn Lamb, both finished tied for 4th, the Jackets finished nine strokes in front of Minot State and seventeen strokes ahead of Dickinson State.  “I knew we were going to be a competitive team this year, and I was very excited for the girls to get the first win of the season.  They have worked hard and it showed in Dickinson” said Head Coach Jaime Bentley.

Next on the schedule was the Jamestown College Invitational in Jamestown, ND.  Coming off a successful opening tournament the Jackets were looking to build on the momentum they had gained in Dickinson.  Battling some tougher conditions than they had seen all year the Jackets prevailed and came away with a win.  AJ Rolfson, a senior from Rapid City, also had a great tournament taking medalist honors marking the first win of her career with the Jackets.

The final conference tournament of the fall was held in Minot, ND.  While in Minot the Lady Jackets ran into a very good Dickinson team and competed hard with them but came up short by only four shots, placing second in the tournament.  Once again the Jackets were led by senior AJ Rolfson and sophomore Katelynn Lamb. Both Rolfson and Lamb tied for third.

After a very successful fall season the Jackets are leading the Dakota Athletic Conference by three points over both Minot State and Dickinson State University. Individually the Jackets have three golfers in the top ten in the points standings. AJ Rolfson leads the conference with 61 points, Katelynn Lamb is tied for second with 57.5 points, and Anne Langdell is tied for seventh with 40 points.  “We are very excited to be where we are at this point in the year.  We have put ourselves in a great position for post-season play and look to build on our success in the spring" said Coach Bentley.

The Jackets will begin their spring season April 19-20, 2009 at the SD School of Mines Invitational.  The only home tournament of the year will take place April 26-27 at Spearfish Canyon Country Club.
