Fort Collins, Colo. – The Black Hills State University softball team competed in the first day of the Triple Crown Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets went 2-1 on the day. Black Hills State knocked off McPherson 7-0 in the first game and followed that with an 8-7 win over Western Nebraska Community College. The third game of the day saw the Yellow Jackets fall to Trinidad 3-0.
“It was a great start for us,” said head coach Amy Gurney. “We use this fall tournament to grow as a team and create unity on the field. I felt like we accomplished that today. Our freshmen stepped up and proved that we have depth at every position in the field as well as in the batting order. It was a great first day and I am excited to see how we grow after today’s start.”
