Mayville, N.D. – The Black Hills State softball team lost both games of a doubleheader on Sunday to Mayville State. The Comets defeated the Yellow Jackets 2-4 in the first game and then 2-6 in the second game. Black Hills State falls to 12-11 (4-4 DAC).
Freshman Nikki Chacon pitched the first game for the Yellow Jackets. Chacon had a rough first inning giving up three runs in the first inning including a solo home run. Chacon settled down in the five innings to follow giving up only one run on three hits. Offensively, Black Hills State struggled from the plate managing only two runs on five hits.
The Yellow Jackets fared no better in the second game of the doubleheader. Senior Heidi Kwilinski once again was a major player in the Black Hills State offense. Kwilinski hit a two-run homerun in the sixth inning, however, that proved to be too little as the Yellow Jackets dropped their seventh straight game.
Black Hills State will return to the diamond tomorrow for a makeup doubleheader against Jamestown. The games will be played in Jamestown and are set for 3 and 5 p.m. CT.
