Women's Basketball Ready for the 2009-2010 Season!

The Lady Yellow Jackets return 4 starters, two 1st team all-conference players, and an All-American for the 2009-2010 season.  They also return some other very talented players from last year’s basketball team that went 26-8.  BHSU made it to the Elite 8 of the NAIA National Tournament and lost to the eventual national champions, Morningside College.

“The key to our success is the team’s competitive spirit. They do a tremendous job during time and score situations.  They won a lot of close games last season.  Along with that, the games they needed and should win.  This put us in a great position for post season play.  This year’s team will be asked to do the same thing; to play with that same competitive spirit,” said Head Coach Mark Nore.

The 2009-2010 schedule features some very tough opponents and a stern conference which will give the Yellow Jackets a challenge. “We can’t approach this season thinking it’ll be easy. We feel that we have great leadership to not let this happen.  Our leadership will be a collected group effort by everyone involved.  We need Alana Dykouse to be a enforcer on the glass, Britt Fuhrman to be vocal leader and a rock for us offensively and defensively, Janna Schriber to be the “glove” for us defensively and get us into our offense, and Katelynn Lamb to play with confidence, give us production every game and continue to mature as a player,” added Coach Nore.

The Yellow Jackets will also look to Tiffany Thomas, Keely Krolikowski and Jenna Bolstad to play huge roles this year.  Tiffany led the league in steals last season, Keely proved to be a very talented scorer, and Jenna has really worked hard in the weight room and is expected to be effective around the glass.

The Yellow Jackets not only get it done on the court but also in the classroom. Last year’s team included three Academic All-Americans with Brittany Fuhrman, Janna Schriber and Mandy Brumfield.  The overall team GPA is over a 3.7.  This goes to show everyone that it’s not just about basketball with this team.  They understand future goals outside of the game.

“We are very excited about this year’s team.  We have very intelligent, classy young ladies that will make teams work for everything they get.  Our focus is to keep the team edgy, hungry every day in practice and in the classroom.  If we can do this our outlook this season should be very promising. We’re excited for the season and excited to see which players rise up for the challenge. If we can do all these things we have a chance to be pretty good,” stated Coach Nore.
